Skins Give Garden City the Slip

Liberal held off rival Garden City 2-1 Tuesday evening at Redskin Field. LHS freshman Eduardo Moreno scored two more goals for the win. Junior Hector Mata dished an assist. Moreno’s first goal came at the 18:07 mark of the first half. Garden City scored on a penalty kick after a Redskin yellow card at the 3:04 mark of the first half. Moreno netted the decisive goal into the south goal at Redskin Field with 22:15 remaining. Head coach Lori Navarro says the Redskins aren’t there yet. “We’re making progress,” Navarro said. “But I’m not very happy at all with what I see. I’m used to seeing better communication, better team work, and better chemistry. Right now I’m just not seeing that. The reason is none of these kids really played together yet. They got some playing time here and there last year here and there but we lost 12 seniors last year. But if we can win some games when we haven’t had our best game then I can’t wait to see us when we peak.” The fourth ranked Redskins improve to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Hays Thursday.
