Seward Tennis Places Tenth

KSCB News - May 13, 2010 12:00 am

Thursday morning the Seward County Saints 2010 NJCAA

National Tournament came to a close after a very successful week in

Plano, Texas. Seward will finish 10th at this year’s National

Tournament after accumulating 20 total points on the week after a pair

of consolation bracket wins this morning. On Wednesday the Saints had

limited action on the court but did have some success in consolation

bracket matches. Nathan Nelmes beat Corey Arnold of Kaskaskia College

easily 6-1, 6-0 in the consolation semis and early this morning

dispatched of Daniel Little of Gadsden State 6-2, 6-2 in the final to

bring home the consolation bracket championship. In #4 singles,

Christian Romanzini worked his way into the round of 8 Wednesday morning

but lost 6-2, 6-2 to Matt Davis of Collin to finish in a 5th place tie

as his tournament came to an end. After dropping his first match of the

tournament Eduardo Munoz made a stand to play as long as he could in the

consolation bracket and he did just that winning Wednesday 6-1, 6-1 over

Kaleb Bone of Kaskaskia in the semifinals and then defeating Jeremy

Falls of Itawamba CC in straight sets Thursday morning to capture the

championship. The Saints last doubles team standing on Wednesday was

Fernando Soni and Carlos Souza who advanced Tuesday to the quarterfinals

but were dropped there by the 2nd ranked team of Jonas Imhof and

Christian Valencia who ended the Brazilian duo’s season with a hard

fought 6-3, 6-4 victory to knock them out in 5th place. With the wins

this morning the Saints finish the tournament with 20 points and have

locked themselves into the #10 spot regardless of the outcome of the

rest of the tournament.
