Seward Softtball Duo Wins KJCCC’s Weekly Awards

KSCB News - April 23, 2013 4:52 pm

After a 3-1 week which included a pair of wins over
Barton and another against league rival Garden City, Seward County’s
Samantha Phelps and Katelyn Craker have been named the Jayhawk West
Player and Pitcher of the Week as announced by conference officials
Tuesday.

Phelps had a break out week for the Lady Saints in four
Jayhawk West Conference tilts. Wednesday against Garden City she drove
in 5 runs for Seward in the double header with the Busters including a
career high 4 in game two of the twinbill. Sunday against Barton she
was at it again, doing 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI’s in an 18-9 win
against the Cougars and helped Seward complete the road sweep with 2
more RBI’s in game two. She finished the week hitting an even .500 with
11 RBI’s in 4 games.

Craker was unscored upon in two starts for the Lady
Saints this week. Wednesday against a high powered Garden City offense
she threw a three hit shutout against the Busters, striking out 4 to
lead the Lady Saints to a 13-0 win. On Sunday she nearly replicated her
line from Wednesday, this time throwing 6 shutout innings against
Barton, allowing just 3 hits in another 13-0 Seward win.
