Seward Knocks Out Neosho

KSCB News - May 5, 2014 7:20 am

The Seward County Saints still have a pulse. The Saints won two of three at Neosho this weekend to advance to the eight team double elimination portion of the Region 6 Tournament in Wichita. Remarkably the Saints scored in every innings and won in a run rule 14-2 against a Neosho team ranked 11th in the country two weeks ago. Keenan Hall pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run. Seward banged out 22 hits and allowed only five in the win in Seward’s first ever baseball series at Chanute.

Seward scored four in the first in the win on a breezy day with temperatures in the 90’s in Chanute. Brandon Rix singled home a run and Jordan Leinweber grounded out to drive home a run. Connor Smith doubled home a run and another run scored on a wild pitch. Seward added two in the second when Brent Williams doubled home a run for the NJCAA record 36th double of the season for Williams. Kevin Connolly added a sacrifice fly. Seward added two more in the third to keep the pressure on. Jake Fuller singled home a run with two outs and Bryson Allen doubled home a run. Jordan Leinweber doubled with one out in the fourth setting up Smith sac fly to make it 9-1. The Saints added a run in the fifth set up by an Allen double and finished when Brent Williams grounded out to drive home the run. Seward added two more in the sixth with two outs when Mason Marshall and Jake Fuller singled home runs with two outs. Seward added two more in the seventh when Brandon Rix doubled home a run and Smith singled home a run. Allen and Fuller were both 4-5. Rix was 3-4.

The Saints are 31-27 and play Jayhawk West champ Hutchinson Friday at 7 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. The game airs on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
