Seward County Emergency Management Says Prepare For Weather Conditions

KSCB News - December 4, 2013 10:08 am

From Greg Standard, Seward County Emergency Management Director

It appears we are in for a very strong winter system this week. Snow is predicted but extreme cold may be the greater issue as temps fall into the single digits for several nights, with daytime highs only reaching the teens.

Now is the time to check on water lines etc. which may be adversely affected by this extreme cold.

Check to make sure your heating equipment is ready to function and take care of any concerns now, before the cold weather arrives.

Be aware that vehicles may not start and run normally in these conditions, check with your service technician on steps to prevent problems.

Pets and livestock will need shelter and plenty of food and water when outdoors.

Persons working outdoors, will be affected by low temperatures and windchill, which may reach dangerous levels, as low as -3 degrees on Wednesday night.

Remain alert to changing conditions snowfall may produce slick/icy roadways, as well as diminished visibility at times.

Pick up needed supplies today, so you will not need to get out in the cold later on this week.
