Seward County Commission Meets, Discusses Panhandle Road

The Seward County Board of County Commission met Monday evening and discussed with Road and Bridge Supervisor, Tony Herrman, problems concerning the Panhandle Road and other roads throughout the County. Commissioners gave Herman permission to grind rough spots on the Panhandle Road and hire a consultant to look at possible solutions regarding future solutions on the cCounty’s roads. and set a date for a work session regarding County Roads prior to the budget work sessions.

The Commission accepted the bid in the amount of $1,200.00 from Ellsworth County, to purchase a Durango Cage from the Sheriff’s Department.

The County Commission a Conditional Use Permit for Arkalon Ethanol Plant to allow construction of 4 tanks at 8664 Road P, Liberal, Seward County, Kansas. All construction permits must be obtained prior to construction and all inspections must be requested and completed in accordance with building department requirements.

On the matter of the donated water tanks to be placed around the County, Legal Counsel has requested to do contracts with property owners for the placement of water tanks. This requires legal descriptions that can only be provided by a survey. Earls Engineering would need to be hired in order to provide the legals requested for legal counsel. Earls Engineering has provided a cost of $1,300.00 per location, for 4 locations with a cost would be $5,200.00, bringing the total cost of the project to $17,700.00. The Commissioners voted to end the project due to rising costs, and thank Akalon Ethanol for the consideration for the donation.

Commissioners also adopted the Mitigation Plan for the County, which has to be done every 5 years, and also approved Resolution 2021-15 which supports improvements to Highway 54.
