Seward County Commission Meets, Approves Waiver Request

Joe Denoyer - February 6, 2023 9:30 pm

The Seward County Board of County Commissioners met Monday evening at 5:30 pm. The Commission approved a fee waiver request for the Seward County Activity Center for the Cinco De Mayo Community Celebration which is scheduled for September 24th, 2023.

Discussion was held on the billing issue with MTR Stone & Masonry. It seems that after finishing the work at Restlawn Cemetery, it was discovered that all the billed/quoted for was the material. MTR Stone & Masonry was the bidder who did the entrance work at Restlawn Cemetery and was the only bid received. Paying the extra amount was denied by the Commission.

A waiver request for a 60’x120′ parcel of land that is zoned residential but the desire is to use it for commercial use was previously brought before the Board of County Commissioners and returned to the Planning Commission for a recommendation of approval for a Conditional Use Permit.

The Planning Commission held a public hearing regarding this application on January 9, 2023. The Planning Commission unanimously recommends approval of this application. This was approved by the Commissioners.

On the Appeal, of the decision of the Zoning Administrator, to allow the construction of a 7,200-square-foot accessory building, Commissioners approved this request.

For the IT Department, the Commission approved the purchase of the server and hardware to complete the requirements to proceed with the CIC core application software setup and installation, and to purchase the 40 Microsoft Access licenses needed. The cost is $22,361.06 for which ARPA Funding will be used. This is contingent on getting the contracts signed. Also, the Commissioners approved the purchase of a new Sharp MFP to replace the old Sharp MFP at Court Services. The purchase price is $4,397.50 for the color copier.

Gale Eveleigh was recommended to the SWGC Board for an appointment by Commission. The final appointment will be done by the SWGC Board.
