The Seward County Commission met on Monday evening and after hearing a presentation from Sheriff Gene Ward, approved a restructured pay scale for the Department to help in recruiting and retention of officers.

In an added item, the Commission approved top doors for the 2 new trash truck bodies in a total amount of $3,400.00.

Commissioners approved the JCAPS Fiscal Year 2027 Comprehensive Plan Grant Application minus the pay increases, and adopted Resolution No. 2026-07 establishing a temporary burn ban effective until April 6, 2026.

The Commission also approved the 2025 Encumbrances as presented.

After an Executive Session, the Commission voted to retain Brady Steckel as interim Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director and increase his salary to $82,000/year.
