Joe Denoyer - March 24, 2024 6:48 pm

Around 3:30 p.m. today, severe weather and high winds began moving across the area. Shortly thereafter, the GCPD Communications Center received reports of damage, power outages, and funnel sightings, subsequently activating tornado sirens across Garden City.

Police, Fire, and EMS personnel responded to assess damage reported to residential, commercial, and industrial properties immediately east of US Highway 83 / north of the Arkansas River to approximately Schulman Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders observed damage that was consistent with a tornado or very high winds.

Police, Fire, and EMS personnel are canvassing neighborhoods to assess damage and verify the wellbeing of residents. City and County Public Works and Utility staff are on-site restoring power and assisting with debris removal.

At this time, no injuries have been reported, and damage estimates are unknown at this time.

If residents are displaced or in need of other resources, you may contact the Garden City Police Department at (620) 276-1300.
