SCCC Wraps Up Semester, Enrolling for Spring Classes

LIBERAL, Kan.  — The Seward County Community College academic year 2025-26 completed its fall semester with a busy week of final exams, late-night breakfast for students, and holiday events.
Campus offices open through Dec. 22, reopening Jan. 2
While students have completed fall semester, faculty continue work through Dec. 16, and staff and administrators will be on campus through Dec. 22. During this time, SCCC will operate on its regular business hours schedule of 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Students who opted to enroll in the college’s special three-week Winter Term courses started work on those full-credit, online classes Dec. 16, and will complete them Jan. 4. SCCC has gradually expanded its Winter Term offerings over the past three years, providing a way for students to boost their completed credits total.
Holiday break, with campus closure, runs from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1, with campus reopening for business on Friday, Jan. 2. Faculty return to campus Jan. 5, for professional development sessions (attended by all employees). Classes for Spring Semester begin Jan. 12.
Basketball continues competition Jan. 3 on the road
The SCCC women’s and men’s basketball teams continue their seasons with games at games at 2 and 4 p.m. respectively, at Independence.
The Saints and Lady Saints return to play in the Greenhouse with 2 and 4 p.m. games facing Barton on Jan. 10.
Booster Club donates $10,000 to Saints Athletics
The SCCC Saints Booster Club presented Saints Athletics with a check for $10,000 for student-athlete scholarships.
“Our teams flourish with the support of the community: the boosters are the reason the Greenhouse is known through our conference and across the country for its loyal fan base and unwavering support,” said SCCC President Brad Bennett. “We appreciate everything they do.”

Cosmetology program celebrates graduates
The SCCC Cosmetology program launched another round of graduates with a pinning ceremony Dec. 12 in the Showcase Theater. Program director Mayra Hernandez and instructors Marlen Gallegos and Geddy Martinez awarded certificates to 11 students completing the program:
Adamaris De La Torre, Anay Rodriguez, Isaiah Almeida, Keylan Cruz, Sarahi Lucena, and Yakelin Perez, all of Liberal; Alexa Marquez of Perryton, Texas; Maria Espinoza and Shirley Rodriguez of Guymon, Okla.; Bethany Ellis of Richfield; and Nela Wall from Sublette.
A new cohort of cosmetology students begins study in January 2026, along with the continuing students who began in August 2025.
