Saints Tab Applegate For Sports Information Director

Joe Denoyer - June 21, 2017 7:03 pm

(Roy Allen)
Seward County Community College is excited to announce that Ian Applegate has been named just the third Sports Information Director in the history of the institution. Applegate will serve as the primary contact for all seven of the Saints athletic teams.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to join the Seward team” Applegate said. “I am very passionate about sports information and I look forward to continuing the success that Roy Allen has established as the former SID, while trying to take the office to the next level.”

Applegate joins Seward after spending the 2016-17 academic year as the Sports Information Student Assistant at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). While at IUPUI, he assisted with men’s basketball, softball, tennis and golf primarily through creative content on social media, media guides and game stories.

Prior to IUPUI, Applegate was the Sports Information Student Assistant at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. As the student assistant, he assisted the Cardinals sports information staff with basketball, baseball and football.

Of Applegate’s hiring, Seward Interim Director of Athletics Roy Allen said “In sports terms, we knocked it out of the park by adding Ian to our talented team. Saints fans will be seeing a very talented young SID that has the ability to really take things to the next level with his creativity and knowledge. We are all very excited to get Ian and his wife Leanne to Liberal to become a valuable addition to our community.”

Applegate earned his B.A. in journalism from Indiana University in 2014, before recently graduating from Ball State University with his M.A. in sport administration. He will begin his role as the Saints SID July 10th.
