Ruffino’s Presents Check to Seward County United Way Now At 26% of Goal

KSCB News - December 5, 2011 3:36 pm

Chris Carlile , owner of Ruffino’s Italian Restaurant, presented a $1,000 check to Alicia Bird, one of the 2012 Seward County United Way Campaign Chairs. The check was the proceeds from the Eat Out for United Way event at the restaurant. “We really appreciate the hard work the owners and the staff at the restaurant put into this event,” said Bird. “We had a great turnout that night from supporters eating at the restaurant and this year’s check was almost $350 more than the previous year.” Bird noted that Ruffino’s also held a wine tasting for the United Way in the Spring that also netted more than $1,000. The Seward County United Way Campaign goal is $325,000 this year and will support 28 local non-profit agencies providing services in Seward County.

Tony McKee, Alicia Bird, Jack Cooley and Michele Gillespie, representing the 50th Anniversary Campaign Committee, put up the second football showing the progress of the Seward County United Way campaign. According to Kay Burtzloff, executive director of the local United Way, the campaign currently has donations and pledges of $85,858.83 which is about 26 percent of its $325,000 goal. “We still have a lot of our payroll deduction campaigns that have not reported in yet which makes a big difference,” Burtzloff said. “It’s been slow this year, particularly in our individual and small business giving, but we wanted to let people know that they can still donate and help out this year’s campaign. We won’t be shutting down the campaign until the end of December.”
