Roadwork In Ulysses To Detour Traffic

KSCB News - July 30, 2014 8:14 am

Two pavement reconstruction projects on K-25/Colorado Avenue in Ulysses are expected to begin in August and will lead to detours for northbound and southbound traffic during construction.

The first project runs from the south city limits of Ulysses to the K-25/West Oklahoma Terrace intersection. The Kansas Department of Transportation expects work on that pavement reconstruction project to begin by Monday, August 4. The local detour route will follow County Road 14, Stubbs Road and U.S. 160.

The second project runs from Patterson Avenue, north to the north city limits. Work on the second reconstruction project should begin by August 26, following the completion of the south project. The detour route will follow Patterson Avenue to Road I to County Road 9. Once the reconstruction is completed, the contractor will also patch pavement from Sykes Avenue to Patterson Avenue, with traffic carried through construction.

KDOT expects all work to be completed by the end of September, depending on weather. Smoky Hill, L.L.C., of Salina is the primary contractor on the two projects, which are jointly funded by the state and the City of Ulysses. KDOT is providing $200,000 for each project, with the city adding a total of $115,949.30 for the two projects combined.

If you have questions on these projects, you can call Alan Olson, Ulysses City Administrator, at 620-356-4600.
