Riley and Shellenberger Shine at State

Brock Kappelmann - May 23, 2017 6:42 am

Cameron Riley wins 4th at 5A state golf in Salina. After finishing with a solid 73, Riley found himself in a 5- way tie for third. On the first playoff hole, an Emporia player took third place by hitting a birdie, and it was Riley and a St. Thomas player who both shot par to force a second playoff hole. The other two 73s shot a bogey and double. On the second playoff hole, the St. Thomas player threw his chip in tight, so Riley had to make a shot, and he did just that. He chipped in and captured 4th place with the birdie! Dylan Shellenberger also shot a great round of golf. He was four over after the turn and through the first stretch on the back, and he ended with an 82. Overall, the two boys represented Liberal extremely well. For Shellenberger, this was his last round as a Redskin. For Riley, this was his third and best showing at the state tournament.
