Today, the National Weather Service Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles under a Red Flag Warning. This warning will be for the remainder of today and go through tomorrow Friday, January 16th.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will be expected. Combination of strong winds, low humidity, and warmer than normal temperatures create favorable conditions for rapid fire growth.

Avoid activities that promote open flames and sparks including any control burns which are discouraged. Vehicle drivers and operators, be vigilant of trailer chains dragging, tire conditions, trailer brakes, and/or any situation that may cause sparks or flames along the highways. If you should see the start of smoke or fire, please call 911 immediately during this time.
