Rain and Severe Weather Rumble Through The Area

Severe thunderstorms were reported all throughout our listening area last night. Rain, lightning and strong winds accompanied these storms. Winds gusting over 58 MPH were reported at 9:45pm near Hooker, with 62 MPH winds reported at the Liberal Airport at 9:59pm. Trees and power lines were blown over in the area with 8 miles of lines reported down in the Oklahoma Panhandle, and a tree reportedly was blown over taking out a transformer in Liberal, knocking out power to several residents Lightning also wreaked havoc, as fires were reported around Liberal, Turpin, Hooker, Guymon, Texhoma, Goodwell and Yarborough. Seward County Firefighters were called out to 8 fires during the evening. Rain totals varied throughout the area with some locations receiving from ½ an inch on up to 1 inch.
