Participants in Race Across America left Oceanside Calif., at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, and are expected to cross through Kansas as early as Saturday, June 15.

Race Across America is one of many cycling events in or through Kansas this summer. Motorists should expect to see an increase in cyclists during these warmer summer months and are reminded that Kansas law requires that motorists treat cyclists like any other motorized vehicle on the road. This includes moving over and passing like you would any other vehicle only when safe to do so and requires that motorists must have three feet of space between the cyclist and vehicle when passing.

Riders in this event will enter Kansas from Colorado on U.S. 160 and may be traveling individually or in groups and will be followed closely by support vehicles. Race Across America will take riders through Kansas communities including Ulysses, Pratt, El Dorado, Eureka, Iola and Fort Scott via U.S. 160, U.S. 56, U.S. 400 and U.S. 54.

Race Across America is an annual ultra-distance cycling race that stretches 3,000 miles across the U.S. from Oceanside, Calif. to Annapolis, Md. Riders will traverse three major mountain ranges, cross four of America’s longest rivers and the Great Plains.

Additional information about Race Across America, including route details and GPS tracking of participants, is available at raceacrossamerica.org.
