“Pioneer Days Events for 2020”
Joe Denoyer - August 11, 2020 10:31 am
Welcome to the 88th Guymon Pioneer Days, “Gone West”! The very first Pioneer
Days Celebration was a testament to the grit and perseverance of the people from No
Man’s Land and today it still rings true.
I would be careless if I neglected to recognize the reason why Pioneer Days is held
in August this year rather than the traditional first weekend of May. The COVID-19
pandemic paused business, events, and activities because the threat of contamination
was too great to risk our friends and family with. However, we now have an opportunity
to celebrate a resilient, determined community this August 21 – 23.
As a representative of the Chamber, I know that each person that volunteers to bring
this annual event to Guymon, gives their time and talents with the community in mind.
Our sponsors are a huge reason why Guymon is consistently in the running for
accolades and awards at the National level. Support from the City of Guymon and
Texas County helps tremendously when preparing for Pioneer Days; we strive to
showcase our greatest assets to our guests. You have our earnest gratitude for
supporting the Chamber and the community in which we serve.
For the first time in decades, we will not be hosting the “Old Timer’s” events –
Pioneer Days Queen and Parade Marshall will be announced in 2021 when the threat of
exposure to the COVID-19 virus has diminished. The recipients for 2020 should be
honored with the full experience they deserve; therefore, they will be announced and
recognized in 2021.
Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo is a destination for world-class athletes and for fans
who know a thing or two about the sport of rodeo. We appreciate all who came before to
pave the way to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and we commend Frontier Rodeo as the
five-time PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year
The Guymon Chamber of Commerce will host the Pioneer Days Mercantile, Pioneer
Days Parade, Family Fun Day and the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo. We encourage
our guests to be safe; masks are encouraged, but not required. Hand sanitizing stations
will be available. Social distancing is encouraged as well.
Applaud success, honor courage, and recognize the effort – we are an “American
Original”.
