Panhandle Roads Open But Hazardous

KSCB News - December 22, 2011 3:48 pm

Oklahoma transportation officials say there are still hazardous road conditions in the Panhandle and in neighboring states.

Blowing snow from this week’s blizzard was still causing problems Thursday.
Road crews are busy in Beaver, Cimarron and Texas counties putting sand and salt on the roads. And they’re also plowing where needed.

At the request of New Mexico officials, U.S. Highway 56 west of Boise City is closed. Otherwise, all Oklahoma Panhandle roads are open. However, motorists are urged to be ready for slick conditions and to allow extra time for travel.

Thursday is expected to be the busiest day of the Christmas travel season.

Guymon’s residential streets remain slick Thursday afternoon as light snow again falls across the area. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Midnight in Texas and Cimarron Counties as snow is expected to pick up later Thursday afternoon.
