Gabriel (Grable) R. Carrillo

Gabriel (Grable) R. Carrillo, age 76, of Ulysses, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses. He was born March 25, 1947, in Crowley, Colorado, the son of Francisco and Emeteria Carrillo.

At the age of 12, Grable and his family moved to Ulysses, Kansas, as migrant workers. Five years later they moved to Johnson. Grable continued to work in the sugar beet fields and would help his brother, Frank, with harvest. Grable enjoyed fixing lawnmowers, gardening and going to Bingo. He loved his family and was always proud of their accomplishments. Grable loved to fish and was always catching “Channel Cats”. Each year the fish kept getting bigger and bigger according to him. He was a very unique, big-hearted person. Memories of Grable have impacted each and every one of us. We all have a story with him that will be treasured forever. He will be missed dearly.

Gabriel is survived by his sisters, Ruth Partida and husband Louie of Johnson, and Lupe Beltran of Ulysses; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Gabriel is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Emeteria Carrillo; brothers, Teddy, Frank, Tony, John and Cruz; and sisters, Juanita, Annie, Ramona and Cipiana.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 13, 2023, and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 14, 2023, both at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Charles Seiwert officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
