Donna M. Thorp

Donna M. Thorp, age 95, passed away Wednesday morning, March 11, 2025, at the Satanta Long Term Care, Satanta, Kansas.

 

She was born September 9, 1930, at Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Velma (Munger) Pope.  As a young girl she attended school in Kismet, graduating from Kismet High School in 1948.  She later attended Friends University in Wichita.

 

On December 2, 1949, she married Donald D Thorp at the Friends University Chapel.  After their marriage, the couple lived in California and Wichita before moving to rural Kismet in 1958.  A longtime area resident, she was a homemaker, bookkeeper, and farmer.

 

She was a member of the Plains Friends Church, serving as the church treasurer for thirty years, and a sixty year member of Beta Sigma Phi.  She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, cross-stitching, working crossword puzzles, reading her bible, and spending time with her family and friends especially large family dinners.

 

She is survived by three sons, Raymond Thorp of Wichita, Kansas, Gary Thorp and wife Brenda of Alvaton, Kentucky, and Randall Thorp and wife Donna of rural Kismet, Kansas; a daughter, Carolyn Quillin and husband Dave of South Haven, Kansas; two sisters, Leona Rush of Mission, Kansas, and Norma Staker and husband Fred of Norman, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Jeff Quillin, Travis Quillin, Daniel Hampton, Ashley King, Lauren Thorp, Steven McKinney, Chad McKinney, Ryan McKinney, Tucker Thorp, and Garrett Thorp; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband on March 23, 2023; her parents; and a grandson, Jordan Thorp.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Plains Friends Church, Plains.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.

 

The family would welcome memorials to the Plains Friends Church in care of the funeral home.
