Mounsey Nets Third Jayhawk Player of the Week

Brock Kappelmann - February 21, 2017 12:45 pm

Seward County freshman Mollie Mounsey scored her third Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week award of the season on Tuesday, leading the Lady Saint to a pair of wins last week to keep Seward in the driver’s seat for a Jayhawk Conference Championship.

Mounsey put together two more solid performances for the Lady Saints last week, pushing Seward County to 26-1 on the year as she averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game for the gals in green. Wednesday on the road at Neosho she flirted with a triple-double, putting up 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in a 29 point Seward win. Saturday she put up nearly identical numbers, scoring 25 points, pulling down 8 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists in a tight win over Independence.

Mounsey is in line with three games to go to win the conference scoring title at 19.8 points per game on the year while far and away leading the league with 109 three point makes this season, and she has also been the best free throw shooter in the Jayhawk Conference, hitting at an 86.7% clip this year.

Mounsey and the Lady Saints return to the court on Wednesday on the road at Colby and will take on Dodge City in the Conqs new Student Activities Center on Saturday before returning home to take on Garden City Monday in their regular season finale.
