Seymour Rogers Basketball

Here are the recaps from our first boys BB game of the season, the weather
didn’t allow the Apaches to play last week.

*8A from Coach Watt – *
The Apaches took the floor against a well-experienced and talented Hugoton
squad Tuesday evening. The Apaches came out flat to start the first and
second halves leading to a deficit they could not overcome. In the first
quarter Hugoton jumped out to a 14-2 lead before a couple of late Apache
baskets brought it to 14-6. Seymour Rogers would adjust and played well in
the second quarter and went into the half down 26-14. Hugoton came out of
half strong with another big quarter leaving SRMS down 39-16 heading into
the fourth. The Apaches won the fourth quarter and played their best ball
of the night in the contest en route to a 45-24 loss. The Apaches showed a
lot of growth against one of the most talented teams they will see all
season. The Apaches will look to rebound Thursday night at SRMS as they
open up WAC play against the Dodge City Cardinals.

*8B from Coach Shelby – *
The 8th grade B team from Seymour Rogers rallied from an early 6-0
deficits in the 1st to take a 23-18 lead over Hugoton going into the half.
Seymour Rogers hit 5 threes in the first half. The Apaches went cold in
the 3rd quarter getting outscored 13-0. In the final minute, as Seymour
was attempting a comeback, a Hugoton player hit the front end of a 1 and 1
to put the game out of reach. Hugoton won 32-28. Isaiah Guinn lead the
Apaches with 6 points. Coach Shelby blew the game by not switching from a
2-3 zone to man defense during Hugoton big 3rd quarter run.

*7A from Coach Kachel – Seymour Rogers Middle School 7th grade basketball
team opened their season with a loss, 19 to 42. Damian Rios led the Apaches
in scoring with 8 points. SRMS fell behind the Hugoton Eagles 8-14 after
one quarter and 12 to 24 at half. The Apaches cut into Hugoton`s lead in
the third quarter at 16 to 24 but could get no closer. 7B from Coach
Richards – *
The entire team yesterday surpassed expectations and because of that
pulled a great comeback win to finish the game. The players were fighting
every quarter and playing tough defense, causing turnovers, and taking away
the easy shots from our opponent. Our lead scorer was Orlando Munoz with 9
points, but the rest of the team contributed as well. Enrique Morales
scored 4 points, Abel Aguirre scored 3,Angel Soto 4, and Sergio Aguliar
scored 2. Alexsis Galindo, Deangelo Denton, Eric Valenzuela, Damian Rios,
Brian Gallegos, Alex Koerner, helped shut down our opponent on defense.
Junior King stepped up big time last night and with the last 5 seconds came
down with crucial rebounds to give us the ball to win our game 22-20 last
night.
