Limited Facility Access in Seward County

Joe Denoyer - March 19, 2020 3:53 pm

Seward County, Kansas – Seward County Local Government will limit public access to all Seward County facilities effective at 5:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2020. This means that the County and its departments will remain open for business for essential services only. We encourage all individuals needing to do business with the County to call ahead and confirm that your service is considered essential.

Expectations for County Buildings:
1. When coming to a County building please expect doors to be locked, limiting access.
2. There will be signage with phone numbers to call in order to receive service.
3. Non-essential visits will not be permitted.
4. Escorts may be available to help navigate the building safely.
5. The department you need to visit may be closed completely due to the nature of their services.
6. Services may be limited due to restrictions.

Drop Box:
There is a drop box located in the vestibule of the Administration Building. You may drop off tax payments, renewal information for tags, rendition forms for the County Appraiser’s office, etc. Please leave your name and contact number so that we may contact you with any questions or to notify when your renewal is ready to be picked up.

The County Treasurer’s Office will still be processing vehicle tags with the following directions:
1. Title work will be done by appointment only. Please call 620-626-3215.
a. If you are sick or feeling ill, please do not come into the office or the Administration Building.
b. Please maintain a distance of 6 feet between yourself and other individuals.
c. There will be no more than two (2) people allowed at a station at any given time.
2. Phone numbers for all departments are available online at sewardcountyks.gov

***County Treasurer, Kitty Romine, encourages customers to process their renewals and pay their taxes online as opposed to coming into the office.

Why are we limiting access?
1. We are restricting access to help reduce the probability of the spread of the COVID-19.

Why are we NOT limiting completely?
1. As County Government, we provide essential services that are not provided by other agencies, so we have to maintain a certain level of functionality to provide services to all of you.

Open Meetings:
At this time, all meetings of Seward County will be open to the public as they normally are and the Administration Building will be open during the time the meeting occurs. Due to concern for group size and increased possibility of transmission of the virus, please be aware that meetings of the County Commission are live streamed at www.sewardcountyks.org and also on our Facebook page. Meetings are archived and you can also watch them after the meeting by going to www.sewardcountyks.org. If you attend meetings please be aware of appropriate social distancing. Currently, the Kansas Attorney General is look at developing temporary regulations that may change the way meetings are conducted, but this guidance is not available at this time.
