The Liberal softball team is back to .500 after sweeping the Southwestern Heights Mustangs 10-5 and 5-3 Monday afternoon and evening at the National Beef Sports Complex.
In game one, Liberal scored two in the first, four in the second, and one in the third to lead 7-1 after three. The Redskins added three in the sixth to lead 10-1 before Heights plated four in the seventh. Taylor Harding was 3-4 with a double and three RBI’s. Haiden Lyon was 2-3 with a triple, two RBI’s, and two runs. Devaney Carter was 2-3. Zoey Torres pitched the distance for the win with seven strikeouts and one walk. Liberal out-hit Heights 10-5. SWH had three errors.
In game two, the Mustangs scored one in the first and Liberal scored two. LHS added a third inning run to lead 3-1. But Southwestern Heights scored two in the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Libral responded with two in the bottom of the sixth. Zoey Torres was 2-3 with an RBI and a run. Devaney Carter pitched 5 and 2/3 solid innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Heights out-hit Liberal 8-5. Heights had one error and Liberal had one. Allie Champion went 1 and 1/3 hitless and scoreless innings.
Southwestern Heights is 15-3. Liberal is 9-9. There is a change in the schedule due to rain. Liberal will now play at Hays Tuesday at 3pm and host Hays on Thursday.
