Joe Denoyer - July 8, 2020 3:36 pm

On Tuesday July 7th, 2020, at approximately 1:08, a Liberal Police Officer was on patrol in his marked 2018 Ford Explorer and was stopped at the intersection of West Pancake Boulevard (State Highway 54) and South Western Avenue due to congestion at the traffic light. While attempting to turn southbound onto West Pine Street, the officer pulled into the path of an oncoming passenger vehicle which was traveling eastbound behind a large tractor trailer and struck the passenger vehicle at the intersection. Three occupants were inside of the passenger vehicle and were checked on by on-scene Liberal PD officers, Liberal Fire Department personnel and EMTs. Two passengers sustained minor injuries; the officer sustained none. All occupants of the passenger vehicle declined further medical attention on scene.

An investigation into the officer’s actions is ongoing.
