Liberal Police Make Auto Burglary Arrest

KSCB News - October 19, 2012 4:08 pm

On October 18, 2012, at about 11:00 p.m., authorities from the Tyrone Police Department requested assistance with the service of an arrest warrant. A 21 year old male had an outstanding felony warrant out of Texas County, Oklahoma. Liberal Police officers and Seward County Sheriff deputies located and arrested the wanted subject at a local motel.

Investigators questioned the man and determined he was a suspect in several previously reported burglaries in Liberal. Between October 4, 2012 and October 6, 2012, officers responded to several reports of auto burglary on the north side of Liberal. The suspect(s) targeted cash, wallets and purses left in the vehicles.

An affidavit will be forwarded to the Seward County Attorney seeking the charges of 5 counts of burglary to auto, 5 counts of theft and 3 counts of criminal damage to property.

Burglaries to vehicles are often crimes of opportunity. As such, remember to remove valuables from vehicles and lock unattended vehicles to lessen the opportunity.
