On Monday 12/06/2021, Liberal Police Department School Resource Officers were made aware of a Snapchat post circulating among Liberal High School students regarding rumors of a threat. This investigation revealed that the Snapchat post was in reference to a threat to a school district outside of southwest Kansas and was only inadvertently received by a student in Liberal.

On Tuesday 12/07/2021, Liberal High School staff were made aware of another Snapchat post. This post originated from a LHS student regarding a possible threat at LHS. LPD school resource officers immediately investigated the post and found it to be in reference to the Snapchat post circulated on 12/06/2021.

Quickly throughout the day, the news of today’s Snapchat post has spread throughout the school system causing misinformation about the content of the original post.

At this time, there is no evidence of any threat to Liberal High School or any school in USD 480.

Please report any possible threat to any Liberal school immediately by calling (620) 626-0150.

The Liberal Police Department would like to caution the public about posting or sharing information on social media without verifying the authenticity of the information.
