Liberal Police Investigate Injury Accident

On Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at about 5:35 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of 15th Street and Meadowlark Lane to an injury accident. Investigating officers learned that a silver 2004 Toyota, driven by a 19 year old male, failed to yield when turning onto 15th Street and was struck by a red 2004 Hummer. The Hummer was driven by a 54 year old male and was eastbound on 15th Street.

The Liberal Fire Department responded and extricated the driver of the Toyota from his vehicle. He was then transported to Southwest Medical Center by Seward County EMS. He was later flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with severe injuries.

The driver of the Hummer did not sustain any injuries. Both vehicles had major damage and were towed from the scene.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The investigation in ongoing.
