Liberal Man Injured in Nebraska Crash

Joe Denoyer - July 5, 2017 5:20 pm

The weekend traffic accident that killed two married couples on motorcycles near Lake McConaughy in western Nebraska remains under investigation, said Keith County Attorney Randy Fair.

“Once adequate information can be reviewed from the investigation, a decision will be made regarding what charges, if any, will be filed,’’ Fair said Tuesday.

Fair identified the driver of the SUV that collided with the motorcyclists as Jeser Cisneros-Hernandez of Liberal, Kansas. He was taken to Colorado for treatment of his injuries suffered in the crash.

Nebraska State Patrol troopers earlier said they think the SUV crossed the center line and struck two motorcycles traveling in the opposite direction. It happened Saturday on two-lane U.S. Highway 26 in Keith County. Each motorcycle was carrying two riders.

The riders on one motorcycle were identified as Sheila Matheny, 54, and James Matheny, 61, of Bedford, Iowa. The riders on the other motorcycle were Michal Weese, 58, and Jerolyn Weese, 59, of Council Bluffs. James Matheny and Jerolyn Weese were siblings.

The accident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. on the first day of a busy weekend for holiday travel.
