Liberal Looks to Continue Soccer Supremacy

KSCB News - August 30, 2012 1:05 pm

Liberal head soccer coach Lori Navarro and the Redskins are doing their best to try to turn the page. After winning the school’s first soccer championship last November, the Redskins will start anew Thursday evening at Great Bend.

The Redskins return only three starters from last year’s 16-5 state championship team. There are 53 soccer players at LHS. They return senior goalie Ricardo Castro, senior striker Estevan Michel, and junior center midfielder Jason Rios.

Lori Navarro enters her 15th season in the program’s 15th season as head coach. Navarro has seen the Redskins go 16-5, 17-2, and 17-4 the past three seasons.

They lose three stars from the past couple of seasons including forwards Isai Gutierrez and Eduardo Moreno and defender Joe Campos who are all playing for Sporting Kansas City’s Academy.

The Redskins have become a juggernaut on the high plains. They have advanced to nine of the past 10 final fours and have claimed 11 straight WAC titles.
