Liberal Fire Department ?? Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Boot Block

KSCB News - September 3, 2014 11:23 am

Many residents of Liberal and the surrounding area may have encountered Liberal Firefighters at a “Boot Block” this Labor Day Weekend. Fire department personnel were on station in front of Wal-Mart & Best Market collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in conjunction with their annual Labor Day Telethon project. We are proud to announce that through the generosity of all who donated by filling the boot, $4,623.67 was raised and is already on its way to MDA headquarters to be put to use benefiting many individuals in their battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Firefighters wish to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone who donated. Whether you gave a little or you gave a lot, it all added up to record setting collections for this worthy project. We have been assured by MDA representatives that funds collected in our community are earmarked back to our community for those in need. Funds raised each year are used for everything from sending children to summer camp to providing relief from the costs of treatment and equipment.

The Liberal Fire Department would like to extend a thank you to both Wal-Mart and The Best Market for allowing our personnel to occupy the front of their business for three consecutive days. Their generosity helped to make this project a great success.

Also deserving of recognition is Lieutenant Tyson Rice; he coordinated this project for our department and is to be congratulated on his efforts and success. Liberal Fire Department will look forward to a continued partnership with MDA in the future, and hope for ultimate success in the battle against Muscular Dystrophy.
