KSCB News - November 9, 2011 8:37 am

The Liberal City Commission met for their regular meeting on Tuesday evening at 6:30 for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda was Debt refinancing of current bonds for the City of Liberal. City Financial Director Chris Ford and City Manager Mark Hall, have been working with John Haas of Ransom Financial to look into refinancing current city debt and possibly saving the City money. The result, which was approved by the commission , was a refinancing that immediately saved the City and the taxpayers, $271,000.00. This refinancing does not add length to the payments, it keeps the terms the same with the added possibility of paying off the bonds early. In other action, the Commission gave approval to City staff to continue to pursue automatic water meter reading for the City and financing options to fund the project, and approved concrete dirt bins for the cemetery, not to exceed $3,000.00, and to be constructed by City staff. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be November 22nd.
