Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves Computer Purchases

The Liberal City Commission met on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm at the City Commission Chambers for their regularly scheduled meeting. On the Agenda was a Proclamation declaring March as National Nutrition Month. Phillip Lee was in attendance to receive the Proclamation and invite the community to the Healthy Fun Fair scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd at the Seward County Ag Building. The event will start at 10:00am. Also, Commissioners set a hearing for the condemnation of a property at 335 Virginia Avenue. The hearing will be on April 23rd, 2013. The Commission approved the purchase of 5 computers, 2 for the Building Dept., 1 for the Finance Dept., 1 for the Economic Development Dept., and 1 for Human Resources. Total cost is $5352.99. The City will continue to utilize the old computer for parts. The City also heard a report from Economic Development Director Jeff Parsons, on a proposal to continue negotiations with an Economic Development Consulting and Recruitment Firm, Retail Attractions LLC. Company CEO Rickey Hayes, has already been to Liberal, seen its potential, and would like to help Liberal grow. The Commissioners gave staff the approval to continue talking with the group, and come back to the Commission when contracts are being finalized. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be March 12th.
