The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm for their rgularly schediled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the Liberal City Commission accepted a grant from the FAA in the amount of $4,442,500.00 for the Reconstruction of parallel Taxiway A and Taxiway C project. The City will have to come up with 5% of the total project cost which amounts to $222,125.00 which will come from Economic Development. The project will include the design, construction and Engineering services of H.W. Lochner, Inc. Commissioners also approved Firefighter Protective Clothing in the amount of $5,712.00, appointed Pam McElvain and Chuck Lamberson to the Convention and Visitors Board, and amended Exhibit C of the Code of the City for Massage Establishments and reduced the fee from $500.00 to $50.00. The Commission also approved the Final Reading of Ordinance 4410 Vacating a Utility Easement at the Airport, passed Resolution 2172 Autorizing the Sale and Conveyance of Property to MZ, LLC. This is the property at Gardner Cryogenics. Commissioners also directed the Liberal Police Department to pursue Phase 1 of the Safe Routes to Schools Grant, and rejected the lone bid on the configuration of the 6 Points intersection. The bid came in about $800,000.00 over the Engineers Estimate. The City may possibly look at other alternative plans and re-let the bids, or may just leave the intersection the way it is currently.
