Liberal City Commission Meets

The Liberal City Commission met last night in a reconvened meeting from Tuesday night as they did not have a quorum. Commissioners met in the City Commission Chambers at 6:30pm. In items of action commissioners approved the vacating of a utility easement for 404 and 405 Harold Court. The commission also approved the authorization for staff to apply for the Homeowner Rehabilitation Grant. If awarded, the grant would be in the amount of $375,000.00 with the Cityź??s match of $75,000.00 or 25%. Staff also received approval from the commission to once again apply for USDAź??s Mutual Self Help Housing Technical Assistance Grant. This grant is for $288,000.00 and would go toward building 15 homes in Liberal between 2010 and 2012. City commissioners also gave KDOT approval to award the 8th Street project to the low bidder, J & R Sand of Liberal, in the amount of $1,844,639.72. The Cityź??s portion of the project. $443,000.00 would have to be prepaid. This passed 4 -0 with Commissioner Carlile abstaining. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission is July 28.
