Liberal City Commission Holds Regular Meeting

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday October 27 for their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30pm at the City Commission Chambers. Among the items on the agenda Commissioners approved the several purchases for the Police Department. Approved were 4 Tasers in the amount of $3,284.80, 15 Level II Body Armor vests in the amount of $9,085, however the department has recieved a grant that will cover half of the costs, and 2 dog boxes for the back of Animal Control pick ups. Cost of the boxes came in at $9,342.62. The commission also approved the purchase of a truck load of trash bags to be resold to the public. The commission approved the purchase of 760 cases of the bags at a cost of $31.20 per case. This price is down from last years purchase price. The commission also at Tuesday night’s meeting appointed Chad Mease to the Airport Advisory Board, and Lisa Olson to the Liberal Housing Authority Board. In other action items the Liberal City Commission Approved Resolution No. 2066 which adopts the Southwest Kansas Coalition 2010 Legislative Policy, approved the Liberal Fire Department Response Protocol Guide, approved an Identity Theft Protection Program for the City, and moved to second readings, the 2009 Uniform Public Offense Codes, and Standard Traffic Ordinances. The city also approved entering into a contract with Charlesworth and Associates for Risk Management Services for the city’s insurance. Amount of this contract is $5,950.00. Since the City has been working with Charlesworth and Associates , the city has saved $108,335.00 over the prior year. The Liberal City Commission will next meet on November 10, 2009.
