Liberal Blasts Great Bend in Opener

Liberal found the back of the net eight times in a resounding season opening win 8-2 over Great Bend on a hot Thursday evening at Redskin Field. Liberal scored six second half goals after leading 2-1 at the half.

Eliel Gonzalez scored three times while Brian Alvarez and Mike Fonseca scored twice a piece. Josh Martinez added one goal.

Freshman Fonseca scored the first goal assisted by Johnny Del Val. Martinez scored goal number two thanks to an assist from Israel Arroyo. Gonzalez scored his first of three goals with a Fonseca assist. Alvarez scored Liberal’s fourth goal with an assist from Gonzalez. Gonzalez scored the fifth goal with an assist from Jacob McCarter. Gonzalez scored the sixth goal as well with an assist from Alvarez. Fonseca scored his second goal thanks to an assist from classmate Max Lugo. Alvarez scored the eighth goal with an Arroyo assist.

Liberal plays Monday at the Wichita South Titan Classic at 11 a.m. against Wichita Trinity.
