LHS Wins Great Bend Tournament

Liberal High School Boys’ Tennis is off to a good start with 1st Place Team honors at the Great Bend Invitational Tennis Tournament on April 2nd. Competing teams included Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend, Hoisington, and Ellinwood. Liberal finished first with 44 points followed by Garden City with 42 and Great Bend with 34 points. Liberal dominated opponents with three 1st place finishes and one third place finish.

Individual results:

#1 Singles–Larcyn Carter went 5-0 earning the gold medal. He defeated Dodge City’s Tanner Miller 8-0, defeated Ellinwood’s Kale Clawson 8-5, defeated Garden City’s Blake Stucky 8-4, defeated Hosingotn’s Ethan Smith 8-0, then defeated Great Bend’s Noel Rodriguez 8-2 to win first place.

#2 Singles: Josh Hamilton went 3-2 on the day earning a bronze medal. He defeated Dodge City’s Hendrik Kronsbeln 8-4, defeated Ellinqood’s Aaron Pike 8-2, lost to Garden City’s Fidelix Kyan 5-8, lost to Great Bend’s Ramon Garcia 4-8, than defeated Hosington’s Jordan Klima 8-2 to finish 3rd place.

#1 Doubles–Duc Nguyen and Vince Nguyen went 5-0 finishing 1st place. They defeated Dodge City’s Salom/Nichols 8-0, defeated Ellinwood’s Blakeslee/Troyer 8-4, defeated Garden City’s Riggs/Clarke 8-4, defeated Hoisngton’s Batt/Buntain 8-1, then defeated Great Bend’s Moyers/Jacobs 8-2 to finish with the gold medal.

#2 Doubles–Adrian Amado and Joseph Coto went 4-1 finishing 1st place. This team impressed all with their first varsity tournament appearance. They defeated Dodge City’s Brock/Lopez 8-2, defeated Ellinqood’s Isern/Niles 8-2, lost to Garden City’s Brennon/Keller 3-8, defeated Hoisington’s Schauf/Brickley 8-4, then defeated Great Bend’s Heeke/Neeland 8-7 (8-6 tie breaker) to end in a three-way tie for first place honors.

Liberal travels to Goddard to compete Saturday, April 9th.
