LHS Varsity Boys Track Take First, Girls 4th in Garden City

The Liberal Redskin Track teams traveled to Garden City for an Invitational meet on Tuesday. This was the first meet for new Head Coach Caleb Cline. The Varsity boys team responded well for Cline coming up with a victory. The Girls Varsity came in 4th. Placers for the boys included: In the Javelin, Slader McVey in 2nd, Nolan Larkin in 6th. In the shot put, Justin McPhail took 1st with a personal best throw of 52’1", while Gabe Beltran took 5th. McPhail also took 1st in the discus with a toss of 142′. Trenton Wilson came in 3rd in the high jump., while Isaac Gallegos took 1st in the 400, and 2nd in the 200. Trenton Hammond took 2nd in the 110 high hurdles, Fidel Munoz 3rd in the 800, Angel Viveros 2nd in the 3200, and Kinley West took 4th in the triple jump. In the relays, the Boys Varsity 4 x 400 came in 1st and the 4 x 800 took 3rd.

Placers for the Girls Varsity Squad included: Kim Francis, 4th in the 400, Holly Hinkle, 7th in the 800, Destiny Lucero 4th in the 1600 and 3rd in the 3200, while Mercy Perez took 4th in the 3200. The 4 x 800 team came in 3rd. In the fiels events, Mackenzie Wright came in 2nd in the high jump and 5th in the triple jump. Caitlin Bauer took 1st in the discus, 2nd in the shot put, and 6th in the Javelin. Betthany Thomas came in 2nd in the shot put. The meet wrapped up late Tuesday evening.
