LHS Girls Powerlifting Win State, Boys Second

The Liberal High School girls powerlifting team won their third state championship in a row Saturday at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita. The Lady Redskins won by 310 points. The Liberal boys finished second behind Hutchinson. The Liberal boys had won the past three class 5A titles. The LHS girls won six of the nine weight divisions. Here are Liberals winners:

114- Ashton Cummins Bench 115, Squat, 175, and Hang clean 115.

120- Jessica Relles Bench 110, Squat 150, and Hang clean 90.

132- Gloria Alonzo Bench 105, Squat 150, and Hang clean 115.

140- Kara Lewis Bench 90, Squat 185, and Hang clean 110.

148- Megan Campbell Bench 115, Squat 190, and Hang clean 110.

165- Caitlin Bauer Bench 120, Squat 200, and Hang clean 125.

Boys

Kevin Lam broke the state record for his combined points total of 1,350. His squat tied the state record at 640 pounds. His hang clean broke the state record at 365 pounds. His bench was 345 pounds. John Garcia also took first at 132 pounds. His total was 600 after a bench of 170, a squat of 260, and a hang clean of 200.
