Lady Saints Hold Down Hutch

Brock Kappelmann - January 18, 2018 6:31 am

Seward’s defense did it again. The #13 Lady Saints held the #17 Hutchinson Lady Dragons to eight second half field goals on the way to a 62-49 win in the Hutchinson Sports Arena Wednesday night. It’s Seward’s first win in the Sports Arena since 2009.

The Lady Saints led 14-13 after one quarter and 29-27 at halftime. Seward took a 42-33 lead after three quarters holding Hutch to six third quarter points. Seward’s offense fiinally cut loose in the fourth quarter out scoring HCC 20-16. Seward led points off turnovers 12-4 and fast break points 14-4.

Mollie Mounsey did most of her damage late scoring 20 points. Brennyn Seagler scored all 10 of her points in the second half. Sylvia Veloso has 11 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. She helped force Hutchinson into 18 turnovers while SCCC only had 10. Vilma Covane has nine points and six rebounds. Seward missed many lay ups in the second half or they would have won by more. But they more than made up for it on defense.

The Lady Saints have won five of the last six against Hutchinson. SCCC is 16-2 and 12-2 in the Jayhawk. Hutch is 15-3 and 11-3 in the Jayhawk. Seward plays at Butler Saturday night at 5:30 with Saints Shoot-around at 5:15 on 107.5 and kscbnews.net.
