Lady Red Overcomes Hamlin’s Big Night

The Liberal Lady Redskins overcame a budding star Tuesday night.  Hugoton freshman Mikyn Hamlin tried to will her team into the game but it wasn’t enough at Liberal beat Hugoton 59-42 in Liberal’s home opener in the Big House.  It’s Liberal’s 34th straight home win.

The Lady Red got off to another slow offensive start but led 9-4 after one quarter.  The Lady Redskins built second quarter leads of 18-8 and 23-11 and led 23-14 at the half.  The lead ballooned to 29-14, 39-20, and 43-23 in the third quarter before leading 43-26 after three.  Liberal led 50-29 and won 59-42.

Katie Horyna led Liberal with 17.  Machia Mullens dropped in 12 and Audrey Gilmore had nine with three first half three pointers.  Hamlin led Hugoton with 24.  Liberal won despite 22 turnovers but forced 16 turnovers.  LHS was 10-23 from three point range.

Liberal wins there third straight against Hugoton and is 2-0.  Hugoton is 2-1.  Liberal travels to Olathe Friday to play Olathe West at 6 with Redskin Pregame at 5:45 on 1270 and  Hugoton hosts Dodge City Tuesday.
