The Liberal Chamber of Commerce annual Duck Race was held Saturday at Ducky Downs in Blue Bonnet Park. A large crowd gathered at the canal to cheer on their favorite duck in the race. The ducks were 1 for $10 or a 6 Quack for $50. Crossing the finish line 1st and winning $5000, was duck # 2554 adpoted by Amanda Kolb.2nd place was Duck # 1820 belonging to Jose Pineda. He won $2000. Duck number 534 was adopted by Marlene Mains. She took 3rd and $1000. 4th place was worth $500 and that went to Clark Fosters Duck # 241. In 5th was Duck # 1860 belonging to Marcala Skinner it was worth $400 6th place went to Dora Davis’ Duck # 477, good for $300. The $200 for 7th place went to Duck # 1762 owned by Laura Sloan, and in 8th it was Mike Coopers Duck # 2675 bringing in $100. The last, "Hard Luck" Duck drawn from the middle of the pack was Duck # 903. It was worth $500 for owner Marcy Mckee. Overall the Duck numbers for the 2012 Festival were above those sold in 2011.
