Joe Denoyer - November 1, 2023 12:07 pm

Nov. 14 open house will have English, bilingual presentations on U.S. 54 expansion

LIBERAL – The Kansas Department of Transportation will host an open house on Tuesday, Nov. 14, to present the modified design options to reconfigure the intersection of U.S. 83 and U.S. 54 (informally known as the Six Points intersection). There will be one meeting with two presentations – one in English and one bilingual.

The presentation in English will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 14; the bilingual presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the same day. Both presentations will be at Seward County Community College, 1801 N. Kansas Ave., Room SW229D (second floor above the cafeteria) in Liberal. The community-preferred options identified in July have been advanced to present more detailed information and impacts for public consideration and input.

This U.S. 54 four-lane expansion project will connect to the four-lane expansion project currently under construction from Tucker Road to County Road O. The earliest projected start date for construction is 2028.

Handouts, exhibits and maps of potential improvements will be available. In addition to the two presentations, project staff will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

The public will be able to review meeting information, submit comments and sign up for updates online at ksdotike.org/us-54-expansion-seward-county. Comments will be accepted from Nov. 14 through Nov. 30.

Anyone who requires additional language translation beyond Spanish, special assistance or accommodation to attend either meeting, please contact Yazmin Moreno at (620) 765-7080 or [email protected] one week before the meeting date.
