The Kansas Underground Salt Museum in Hutchinson plans to open its new train ride next week.
Dubbed the Salt Mine Express, the train will travel through mined-out chambers in the salt deposits 650 feet underground. Until now, the chambers have not been available to visitors.
Museum director Linda Schmitt says in a news release that the area is pretty much as miners left it years ago.
The narrated ride takes about 12 minutes and covers almost half a mile.
