KANSAS CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION
MANHATTAN, Kan. June 12, 2023 – For the week ending June 11, 2023, there were 4.7 days
suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil
moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 30% short, 56% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil
moisture supplies rated 17% very short, 38% short, 43% adequate, and 2% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat condition rated 28% very poor, 28% poor, 30% fair, 13%
good, and 1% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 97%, near 99% last year and 98% for the five-
year average. Coloring was 68%, behind 78% last year and 73% average. Mature was 25%, near
27% last year, but ahead of 20% average. Harvested was 1%, near 2% both last year and
average.
Corn condition rated 4% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 48% good, and 8% excellent. Corn
planted was 96%, equal to last year, and near 95% average. Emerged was 86%, near 82% last
year, and equal to average.
Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 53% good, and 6% excellent.
Soybeans planted was 88%, well ahead of 67% last year, and ahead of 75% average. Emerged
was 76%, well ahead of 54% last year, and ahead of 57% average.
Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 53% good, and 4% excellent.
Sorghum planted was 49%, near 52% last year, and behind 54% average.
Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 13% poor, 39% fair, 45% good, and 2% excellent. Cotton
planted was 81%, behind 95% last year and 91% average. Squaring was 8%, equal to last year,
and near 4% average.
Sunflowers planted was 33%, behind 39% last year and 50% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 14% very poor, 23% poor, 37%
fair, 24% good, and 2% excellent.
