Hays Erases Liberal’s Leads

Liberal led game one 5-0 and led game two 1-0 before the first place Hays Indians rallied in both games to beat the Liberal Redskins 10-5 and 4-1 at Leo-Harper Field in Hays.

In game one, the Redskins scored four in the second.  Marco Alonso walked to lead off the inning.  Blayden Betts lined a single to right.  Xavier Porras singled home a run.  Austin Dodge ripped a two RBI double off and over the left fielder’s glove.  Kye Morris grounded out to score a run.  Eathan Hernandez singled home a with a line drive to left.  Marcon Alonso doubled with one out in the third.  Blayden Betts singled and Xavier Porras rolled an RBI single through the left side for the 5-0 lead.  Hays scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third to make it 5-4.  HHS added two in the fifth and four in the sixth. LHS pitching walked nine batters.  Liberal lost despite out-hitting Hays 11-8.  Both team committed an error.  Xavier Porras was Epic Touch Player of the Game going 3-4.  Marco Alonso and Blayden Betts added two hits a piece.

In game two, LHS scored their one run in the first.  Landon Martinez lined a triple off the wall in right.  He scored on Marco Alonso’s ground out.  The Indians scored one run on one hit and two Redskin errors in the first.  HHS added one in the fourth and two unearned runs in the fifth after two more LHS errors.  Both teams had five hits but LHS committed four errors.  Kye Morris was Epic Touch Player of the Game going four strong innings on the mound allowing one earned run with five strikeouts.  Alex Schwindt worked two hitless innings.  Kye Morris had a double in the loss.

Hays improves to 10-6 overall and 9-1in the WAC.  Liberal is 6-15 overall and 2-6 in the WAC.  Liberal has lost 12 in a row to Hays.  The Redskins play at Dodge City Tuesday at 4pm for a double header with Redskin Pre-game at 3:45 on 1270 and 92.3.
