Severe weather season is now upon the area, preparing for this weather in many aspects is what the Guymon Fire Department does in the community.

This Friday morning, April 9th the Guymon Fire Department will be testing the outdoor Storm Sirens in Guymon. Weather permitting, testing will be conducted at 10:00am. “This testing of the sirens allows the City of Guymon to make sure the sirens are functional, working properly, and resolve any issue that maybe found”, said Fire Chief Grant Wadley.

Storm sirens will be tested the first Friday of everyone month at 10:00am over the next several months well into summer. Testing will not be performed if weather is expected such as rain. As a reminder, outdoor storm sirens are meant for citizens that are outside of buildings and homes and do not have immediate access to television, radio broadcasts, or other instant media notification of Tornado weather. While indoors, citizens should stay tuned to local television stations, local radio broadcasts, and/or have a weather radio located in their home or business. Storm sirens in an emergency will only be activated when there is a Tornado Warning threat to Guymon and the immediate area near Guymon. The Guymon Fire Department, Guymon Emergency Management, Texas County 911 Center, and the National Weather Service in Amarillo all monitor severe storms closely. “If and when the time come to active the Storm Sirens, we will be ready”, said Chief Wadley.
