Guymon Home Lost To Fire

KSCB News - August 21, 2014 9:40 pm

A Wednesday evening fire destroyed a family’s belongings in Guymon. The fire was reported at 6:30pm Wednesday by neighbors stating the house at 1110 S. Lelia was on fire. “On Guymon Firefighters arrival, heavy smoke and fire was coming from the windows of the home”, stated Assistant Fire Chief Grant Wadley. The fire spread very rapidly throughout the house before Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.
The family that lives in the home, Andrew and Sheila Scott with their 4 young children, were not at home at the time of the fire. “The family lost everything in the fire including clothes, furniture, personal items, appliances”, said Wadley. Fire investigators found the fire to have started in the kitchen area of the home but the cause is still under investigation. It took Firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and remained on the scene for an additional hour putting smoldering areas and trying to salvage family belongings in the house.
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist this family along with local churches to assist as they can. The children, girls ages 10, 8, 6, and 5 have just started back to school and now the entire family finds themselves starting all over trying to find a new place to live, clothes to wear, and items commonly found in a home that were completely lost.
The Guymon Fire Department responded and were assisted by the Guymon Police, City of Guymon Utilities, and Tri-County Electric
